Wer IBM Connections verwendet, um die Kommunikation innerhalb des Unternehmens und/oder mit seinen Kunden zu optimieren, wird mit der Zeit sicherlich mehr und mehr Informationen ansammeln. Damit alte Daten langfristig verfügbar bleiben, ohne aber das produktive System zu belasten, möchte man sie vielleicht in ein zuverlässiges Enterprise Content Management-System (ECM-System) auslagern. Andererseits benötigen Mitarbeiter möglicherweise Zugriff auf Dokumente im ECM-System, die dort über andere IT-Systeme erzeugt und abgelegt wurden.
